In summer 2025, Varkaus Library received a significant addition when a new Varkaus Community Center opened on its lower floor – a warm and welcoming meeting place for people of all ages. In spring 2026, a new chapter begins in the Community Center’s story as it relocates to the former Joutenlahti school. Activities at the library will continue until Thursday, May 28, 2026, and will resume in Joutenlahti on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
The Community Center is a space where everyone can feel like a valued part of the community. It offers opportunities to connect, participate, and be heard – just as you are. Its activities strengthen a sense of community, inclusion, and trust between people.
The Community Center’s activities are planned and implemented together with the City of Varkaus and local organizations – responsibly and with a strong spirit of collaboration.

Would you like to help shape everyday life at the Community Center?
The Community Center is a platform for community-based activities where you can, for example, volunteer in various roles, organize events, or start hobby or peer-support groups. You can also make use of the Community Center facilities for the activities of a non-profit association or club.

Room Reservations
The Varkaus Community Center will operate at the former Joutenlahti school starting from June 1, 2026. The Community Center includes a lounge area on the entrance level and a classroom (group space) on the first floor. The kitchen is generally shared by all users of the building. Please contact the Lead Community Coordinator for further information about reserving and using the kitchen.
The Community House is also a place where associations, volunteers, and community groups can organize activities that promote community spirit and wellbeing for local residents—free of charge. For more information, please contact the Lead Community Coordinator, who can also assist with reserving the Community House facilities.
Other facilities at the Joutenlahti school (the gymnasium and second-floor classrooms) are managed by the City of Varkaus.
